The most prestigious prize in Dutch pop music

Since 1986, the Popprijs has been awarded annually during Noorderslag. The Popprijs is awarded to the artist or band who has contributed to Dutch pop music in the past year. Issues such as special artistic achievements, national and international success or a long-term career play a role. Still, none of these are decisive: the final judgment is up to the jury.
The prize was initiated by Kunstenbond and awarded by ESNS and Buma Cultuur. Buma Cultuur supports and promotes Dutch music copyright in both the Netherlands and in the most important export markets for Dutch music (not necessarily in the Dutch language).

The 2023 winner of the Popprijs is Joost

Joost has won the Popprijs 2023. The prize consists of a check for 10,000 euros and a statuette by artist Theo Mackaay. According to the jury, Joost made the greatest impact on Dutch pop music last year with songs that uniquely capture the spirit of the times and international success in the charts on-stage.

Joost received the Popprijs 2023 during ESNS.

The Popprijs 2023 was awarded at Noorderslag on Saturday, January 20, 2024. The jury members were: Rob Ester (Qmusic), Fernando Halman (FunX), Veronica van Hoogdalem (Omroep ZWART / Praat Muziek Met Me), Lois de Jong (NTR), Patrick Onderweegs (Kunstenbond), Joost Neelemans (Apple Music), Roosmarijn Reijmer (NPO 3FM), Joey Ruchtie (De Oosterpoort / ESNS), Anna Veenstra (Melkweg) en Maartje Glas (Buma Cultuur, voorzitter jury).
