Are We All Streaming Addicts?

Merlin is by fay the leading one-stop-shop rights organization that negotiates licenses with all relevant digital music services for more than 20,000 labels and distributors from more than 65 different countries and many more do-it-yourself artists. Important topics that have become more prominent on the agenda, even in politics, partly due to the pandemic, is the way in which streaming platforms pay out. What do the new proposals such as equitable remuneration or user centric payments mean? Both to labels, artists and Merlin itself. Also issues such as user data, the increasing number of podcasts at the expense of music, the growth of platforms in Asia and South America, the expected growth of independents and do-it-yourself artists, the importance of playlists or the influence of algorithms. Fact is streaming music has become a dominant factor in the way we, as music fans, consume music and how labels and artists build carreers and make money.
