Record labels used to release records, digital disruption occurred, barriers to “releasing” records decreased.

Over time as the digital opportunity has developed the complexity of creating engagement with an audience has increased. The number of ways for artists to connect to fans has increased, Labels are now working to create opportunities for their artists across the entertainment industry, requiring expertise in developing online activity, the artist’s own brand, creative-collaborations, and partnerships to reach a wider audience. Where once album campaigns peaking every 18-24 months drove the agenda, now a steady flow of content is needed to build an artists profile in the distraction economy. The value to an artist of a strong record label is increasing. In this new era labels are much More Than Just A Record Label.

A selection of experts will explore some of the modern labels areas of operations with insights on the care taken to help artists compete in a number of areas of activity, coordinating actions to deliver the artists story.


  • Sarah Stam

    Sarah Stam Set the Tone (NL)

    Sarah Stam is an Amsterdam based Music enthusiast who focuses on artist and label management within the (electronic) music scene. Having worked for Spotify, Armada Music and the AEI Group in the past, she currently works under the umbrella of her own company Set The Tone. Working with youtube labels like Future House Music and NoCopyrightsSounds amongst others, which operate at the forefront of independent label models, she has a focus working on marketing, branding and international relations. Furthermore, Sarah is closely involved with the global movement of SheSaidSo, stimulating a positive movement to encourage equality & diversity within the music industry, spearheading the Dutch department SheSaidSo.Ams.

  • Wesley A'Harrah

    Wesley A'Harrah Music Ally (GB)

    Wesley T. A’Harrah develops and delivers Music Ally’s b2b training on a global level, with clients including all of the major record labels, numerous publishers, independents such as Beggars Group and Domino, brands such as Red Bull and Spotify, and other media and entertainment organizations and agencies. Music Ally’s training is centered on highlighting the best digital tools and industry trends to help companies continually develop the sharpest strategies. Wesley contributes to Music Ally’s Sandbox Reports on digital marketing tools, trends and opportunities, and is the founder of multiple startups across publishing and influencer marketing spaces.

  • Tim Miles

    Tim Miles Warner Music (GB)

    After studying music in London, Tim started in the industry touring and recording in Royworld, who released a Top 20 album titled ‘Man In The Machine’, which was produced by the band and producer Andy Green. He also spent considerable time writing music for ads. Tim then went on to work for record labels EMI and Parlophone, before heading to Faber Music Publishing where he looked after their media music division. He is now VP of Sync at Warner Records UK and helped set up their recently announced publishing arm, W Songs. Tim is responsible for working with agencies, film companies and games developers, helping them find and utilise music in their projects. Outside of Warner Tim manages two artists and recently headed up the music for MGSO4, an arts festival held on the outskirts of London.

  • Frank Østevold

    Frank Ostevold is the Co-Founder/Head of Content of oiid, a Norwegian music tech firm. oiid's products include a premium music platform which allows fans to step inside their favorite tracks; oiid increases listening time, engagement, and puts the music at the front and center of the digital experience.

    Frank has built an exceptional network across the global music industry with artists and creatives, label, marketing and publishing executives; focused on digital content partnerships and strategy. As an Artist Manager, Frank worked with each client to develop their career to the next level, resulting in chart-topping albums, gold/platinum sales successes, and Norwegian Grammy and Spotify "Innovator of the Year” awards .

    He is currently a member of the MusEDLab Advisory Board at the Steinhardt School, New York University.

    oiid has been incubated during a period of disruption. As perceptions of digital value have shifted, Frank has been at the forefront of developing innovative artist/label approaches to digital consumption. A whole new B2B ecosystem of licensing and value capture has been negotiated across the last years of relative stability, and oiid's unusual role of participating in the disruption, and the now growing new ecosystem has given Frank unique pathfinder know-how and networks.
