Britt Swartjes is a researcher at the Boekman Foundation, the Netherlands’ leading knowledge institute for cultural policy. Her work focuses on inequalities and work in the cultural sector, with a particular focus on the music industries. She earned her PhD in cultural sociology from Erasmus University Rotterdam, where she studied work conditions and practices in Rotterdam’s popular music festival scene – with special attention to diversity and inclusion efforts. Drawing on both academic and industry perspectives, she works to connect research with real-world change in the cultural and creative sectors.
