The merger of Ticketmaster with Live Nation certainly raises concerns. The joining of these two power players in the concert industry took place back in 2010, but has recently gained unlikely attention. Various politicians have already addressed the US-Department of Justice (DOJ) on the subject, not dissimilar to an alliance of activist groups who launched the campaign “Break Up Ticketmaster”, where they asked consumers to send letters to the DOJ to re-initiate an antitrust investigation. Instead back in 2019, the DOJ prolonged the monitoring of Live Nation to 2025 for possible violations of the former consent decree both companies had previously agreed on, in order to obtain approval of the merger. Seriously though, is the fruitful and prosperous combination of Live Nation with Ticketmaster actually as in danger legally as the Titanic on its maiden trip? How realistic is the unthinkable scenario that the global giant of live entertainment is facing a divorce suit that could shake up the concert industry as we know it?
