David Kleijwegt (10/10/65) was born in Rotterdam and started out working as a rock
journalist when he was 18. In the 1990’s he began to contribute to the long running
documentary pop series Lola da Musica, for VPRO television. In 2006 he made his first standalone documentary called The Eternal Children, featuring Antony, CocoRosie and Devendra Banhart among others. That was followed in 2008 by You May Need a Murderer about the band Low, which got him international recognition. His latest music documentary, Mister Soul: A Story about Donny Hathaway (2020), was selected for the renowned International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). In 2022 he made JC, a film consisting only of archival footage about football player Johan Cruijff. He still writes about music. Last year he was editor in chief for several programs, including On Stage and Zomergasten.
