Demian de Rooij is Director of Muziekfabriek Slachthuis, a leading grassroots music venue and cultural incubator in Haarlem, the Netherlands. He has been active in the music industry since the age of seventeen, building extensive experience across artist development, venue leadership and cultural infrastructure.

Demian is a strong advocate for grassroots venues as the foundation of a healthy and diverse music ecosystem. He believes these spaces are essential launchpads for emerging artists, offering room to experiment, discover and develop a distinct artistic voice from an early stage.

Under his leadership, Slachthuis has retained its bold and independent character while achieving long-term financial stability. He is also the initiator of World Protest Song Day, a unique and impact-driven festival that uses music as a tool for social reflection and engagement.

Previously, Demian served as General Director of NDSM, contributing to the development of one of the Netherlands’ most influential cultural hubs. His work consistently highlights the cultural, social and economic value of grassroots venues within the Dutch and international music landscape.
