Benjamin Clementine
ESNS: 2014
Benjamin Clementine's talent was first discovered in a rather unlikely place. In 2009 the Ghanaian singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist moved from London to Paris and started playing covers from James Brown, Nina Simone and Bob Marley in a subway station. Loved by commuters and tourists, he made a living performing underground until one day the owners of the French label, Behind walked by. They were so impressed that they released his debut EP Cornerstone last June. Vanessa Paradis is a fan and Jools Holland loves his dark voice and impressive piano skills so much that he invited Benjamin for a performance on his tv-show, Later with Jools Holland in October. A debut album is planned for 2014.
