Broeder Dieleman
ESNS: 2013
Broeder Dieleman (‘Brother Dieleman’) is the musical moniker of Tonnie Dieleman, born and raised in the Dutch province of Zeeland. The beauty of the region where he was born and his Christian education are returning themes in the delicate folksongs on his first album ‘Alles Is IJdelheid’ (‘All Is Vanity’). Critics have compared Broeder Dieleman to Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy and even David Eugene Edwards (16 Horsepower, Wovenhand), because of his use of acoustic guitars or a banjo, often combined with religious references in his lyrics. Lyrics which are sung in a pure ‘Zeeuws-Flemmish’ accent.
