Emmett Tinley
ESNS: 2012
The world as your playground, that expression seems to be invented for Emmett Tinley. He was born in Chicago and grew up in Ireland. In the nineties he fronted the well known Irish band The Prayer Boat. He moved to Amsterdam to work on his first solo album (living in an attic, keeping faith that his music was good enough to be released: hence the title Attic Faith). He got a record deal in the US. With Danish musicians and Dutch guitarist Marijn Slager (Nuff Said) he recorded Attic Faith with an Australian producer in New York. You can't get more international than that. Attic Faith was praised in 2005 as "a gorgeously fragile, deliciously delicate album to make you fall in love with sad songs again". The reissue of , the last album of The Prayer Boat, by Dutch label Mass Market Recordings, got Tinley some new gigs in Ireland and The Netherlands were he got the idea to make a new soloalbum. The self titled album was recorded in Denmark and New York. The quality of the new album is in line with Attic Faith. If you don't like Emmett Tinley already, it will happen, to quote one of his song titles, Sooner or Later.
