Iceland
Hjálmar
ESNS: 2012
If you combine warm and cold, something is going to melt. Expect some ice water when Hjalmar starts to play. The Icelandic group makes warm, old school reggae while singing in their own language. A peculiar, yet strangely very natural sounding combination. Bearded, white Icelanders and very lazy nice reggae. In their own country people were, justly, enthusiastic and the band collected many awards. Hjalmar was founded in 2004 and for a long time some Swedes were part of the group. Nowadays they are 100 percent Icelandic. Their fourth album was recorded in the Harry J and Tuff Gong studios in Jamaica with the help of local heroes Cat Coore, Sticky and Robbie Lyn. Seven years after they were founded the five men are working on a sixth album. Everyone wants to hear more of Hjalmar: the warmest of reggae from the North Atlantic.
