LaFaro
ESNS: 2012
LaFaro is a band with a bite. A strong bite, these four musicians form Belfast sound like a hungry tiger. After their shows concert halls look like a crowd has been let loose in a well filled lion cage. "We hark back to time when rock music was still fun", says singer and guitarist Jonny Black. Back in 2007 LaFaro was described as "old school post hardcore sounds with just drums, guitars and big chunky distorted bass and Jonny Black mangling his vocals like he’s got a mouth full of drill bits." That voice, somewhere between Jello Biafra and Johnny Rotten, breaks every bit of glass in the neighborhood. And that pounding behind it, LaFaro is the complete opposite of the man they get their name from: soft playing jazz bassist Scott LaFaro. The Irishmen recall Jesus Lizard, Shellac, Helmet and Therapy?. With a big love for lyrics about life's dark little secrets. The BBC wrote about their latest album Easy Meat: "monstrous, challenging and brilliant." A band that could fill stadiums yet chooses for the adventure in music.
