Mahagon
ESNS:
2014
In the western part of Europe, Mahagon is often mistaken for the Czech prog-rock band of the same name. Unfortunately the original Mahagon retired in 1980, but the Moldavian Mahagon is still alive and kicking. This six-piece band consists of a saxophonist, guitarist, drummer, bassist and trombonist and their aim is to discover the common ground between traditional Moldavian music and western pop. 'Haiduc dance' is what they call it, and it reminds one of Balk beats and ska music. They've played the Eurosonic festival twice and they recently played at Munich's notorious Oktoberfest. This is music to party to.
