Mesparrow
ESNS: 2012
Is it the third Cocorosie sister? Is it a porcelain doll haunted by PJ Harvey? No, it's the French Mesparrow. Marion Gaume is a singer and musician from Tours with a beautiful dark tone in her voice. She does everything by herself. With a piano, or a loop machine to sample her own voice. Mesparrow may go from Björk to Shannon Wright. She is her own symphony orchestra and imitates easily a trumpet solo with her voice. You can hear her sing an a cappella version of Cole Porters My Heart Belongs To Daddy just as easy as she sings a cover of Britney Spears' Toxic with her own voice and the loop machine. She had to move to Londen for a few years to find her creative freedom. Over there she founded the Decorative Stamp collective together with some other artists. She collaborated with fashion designers and hiphoppers. It is the confrontation of extremes that characterizes Mesparrows music.
