Mikko Joensuu is a singer-songwriter who stands out from the crowd. His first albums Amen 1 & 2 tap into the American folk music tradition and classic songwriters like Townes Van Zandt, Lee Hazlewood and Leonard Cohen. His sound is all about deep, healing songs that can give the impression of spending time in quiet, intimate surroundings. The arrangements are raw but beautiful, mostly just piano and guitar accompany the Finnish musician's voice, with occasional pedal steel guitars and soothing string sections. Part 3 of the trilogy comes out in the spring.
