The enigmatic Myrkur emerged as the great promise of Scandinavian black metal while also managing to conceal her identity for some time, even after Relapse Records released her eponymous EP in 2014. The following year the world learned that Danish multi-instrumentalist (and singer of Ex Cops) Amalie Bruun was behind the one-woman black metal project. The classically trained Bruun has since released three widely praised albums on which she combines the rawness of second-wave black metal bands like Ulver and Darkthrone with natural, ethereal singing. She performs with a backing band as well as solo with piano.
