Oratnitza came about during the hot summer of 2009 while the band's members were busking by the sea. The idea soon evolved to interpret Bulgarian traditional songs in a way that the younger generations could truly embrace, thus recreating interest in the Bulgarian musical tradition amongst young people. Oratniza's music is a blend of folk melodies, distant aboriginal themes, hip hop, dubstep and drum 'n' bass, and it has created a new sub-genre in the Balkanbeat scene called Bulgarbeat.
