Peggy Sue
ESNS: 2012
They say your senses are working better when it's dark. And the music of Rosa Rex and Katy Klaw, two women from Brighton, together with drummer Olly Joyce they form Peggy Sue, can be dark at times. A song title like Funeral Beat says it all. But it's a gloomy kind of beauty you hear on albums like Acrobats (2011) as well as their debut Fossils and Other Phantoms from 2010. In many reviews of the last album PJ Harvey was mentioned, not surprisingly because her long time producer John Parish was also the producer of . Not that Peggy Sue is a band of the last two years. Music lovers got to know them in 2007 and 2008 when their first singles Television/The New Song and The Body Parts EP were released. At that time the indiefolk band was called Peggy Sue and the Pirates and when they collaborated with Left With Pictures they were called Peggy Sue and the Pictures. Now it's just Peggy Sue. As stripped down as the music of these three musicians can be. Forget all the decorations, it's about the songs and because of the bare songs you can hear the quality in the music of Peggy Sue. To put it simple and effective: Peggy Sue is mesmerizing.
