T-Shit
ESNS: 2014
Their self description probably gets the rough facts pretty well: 'T-Shit succeeds in fusing the aesthetics of electronic dance music (groove) and experimental music (noise, sound, drones). At some point, they talked about pop. ' All three 'band'-members are involved in several other Austrian music groups -- Bernhard Hammer's 'electronic guitars' are, for example, part of the critically acclaimed human-techno-formation Elektro Guzzi. His fellow bandmate, the part-time New Yorker Bernd Klug, has played extensively with Meaghan Burke (Rash, Le Cowboy) and Viennese acts like Werner Kitzmüller, Mimu Merz and Violetta Parisini, to only mention his pop collaborations. In contrast to that, his solo work focuses on "the world inside of the double bass: bow, body and room frequencies lay the groundwork of a radical reduction of his role as composer/performer as well as on the traditional narrative function of music." Some call it 'feedback double bass'. The third part of T-Shit is Sixtus Preiss, drummer and electronic specialist, on whose Facebook page you can not only find photos of complex wiring of his rigs or home-made amplifier boards, but also a picture of a sheet music with a comment saying: "I've spent months (or maybe even a year) on that groove to make four-four time and six-eight time work together. I've succeeded and now it's up to the listener to decide to which beat they want to dance to." Dance music, indeed, played by guitar, bass and drums, nothing "out" at all here, honest...
