After watching the video for Monster we weren’t quite sure whether we didn’t accidently put LSD on our sandwich this morning. Egg yolk turning into eyes, planets being spat out, bears, monkeys, lions and a banana. It’s all possible with the Danish band Thulebasen. The band was formed in 2001 as the brainchild of Nils Bysted, who released the album Guitar Wand in 2008. The album got the predicate "a mindfuck of a masterpiece". Together with Felia Gram-Hanssen (drums) and Niels Kristian Eriksen (guitar/samples) Bysted took the stage. Free improvisations were recorded, repeated, refined and thus reshaped to the tracks that make up the album Gate 5, released in February 2011. The threesome from Kopenhagen makes boggy rock in combination with catchy synthesiser loops and many other layers where anything is possible and nothing is certain. Thulebasen plays both the art biennale in Venice as well as Roskilde. Because any audience can be blown away.
