Wallis Bird
ESNS:
2012
Despite her age and the fact she released her first album in 2007, Wallis Bird is already a name that is mentioned as influence by many young musicians. The Irish musician, residing in London, has put her mark on the music world. Her peculiar and famous guitar playing comes forth from losing 5 fingers in a lawnmower accident (and having four sewn back on again). And then there is that beautiful voice. In her songs she fuses elements of traditional folk music, blues and funk with an energetic handmade rock sound. Her exceptional voice allows for an already huge repertoire from soft folk ballads to rousing power songs. A 5 ft 2 bundle of white heat, Wallis throws herself around the stage with willful abandon, breaking strings, shredding her fingers from the sheer force of her playing, urging the crowd into a collective sing-a-long and throwing her entire soul into each performance with often breath-taking results.
