Maarten Devoldere, one of two major talents from the famed Belgian pop band Balthazar, has really made his own mark. As Warhaus he delivers more melancholic pop, intriguingly tainted with his distinct hoarse vocals. His albums We Fucked A Flame Into Being and Warhaus have produced many notable singles and are prime example of his songwriting prowess. With the reflective lyrics, sober instrumentation and sensuous female vocals, Devoldere creates a dark, tense atmosphere reminiscent of the likes of Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Serge Gainsbourg and Nick Cave.
