We Were Evergreen
ESNS: 2012
A ukelele, a banjo, a toy piano, a kazoo and a glockenspiel. The kind of instruments you hear a lot in the music of We Are Evergreen. The trio from Paris were founded in 2008, after a new year's resolution that, for once, actually stuck in contrast with those resolutions like to quit smoking or lose twenty pounds. The members of We Were Evergreen have known each other since school and the conservatory (course classical percussion). William, Michael and Fabienne shared a fondness for all kinds of pop music and nursery rhymes. Songs between the past and the present, the differences between childhood and growing up. You don't just hear that in their distinct instruments but also in lyrics about small trees growing too fast, yodeling yaks and children flying south for the winter. Music that is free of any cynicism. Like magazine The Fly wrote, summer-styled music to fall in love with when life is indeed 'belle'.
