When Saints go Machine
ESNS: 2012
That is something to tell at parties, that David Hasselhoff has been nodding to your music. Not that When Saints Go Machine have played for the Knight Rider. The first song they ever recorded, You Should Be Someone Else, was remixed by Moulinex and that version was used by someone doing a dance audition on Britain’s Got Talent, watched by David Hasselhoff who at least liked the music. But that was a song of 2007 and in the years after that When Saints Go Machine worked, with a keen eye for detail, on second album Konkylie (the Danish word for conch shell). It is an album you can play ten times and still discover new sounds and details. The falsetto voice of singer Nikolaj Manuel Vonsild is often compared to Arthur Russell and Antony Hegarty. The Quietus wrote: "Fathoming out 's often contrasting imagery is like trying to decipher some ancient code by way of space-age folk-science."
