Throughout history, showing opposition to an idea, a law, or a regime that you disagree with has most usually involved ignoring or disobeying the laws and cultural norms of society to make a point, but the digital era has seen protest and disobedience being increasingly seen as either ineffective or, in the case of many modern music acts, a bad career move. But the truth is that in our over-heated, angry and confused world, protest and disobedience have never been more important, especially among artists who have a large following that pays attention to what they say. How can we bring back the delicate and hugely important art of disobedience, and channel it towards issues and projects that will make a difference to millions of lives?
