Probably there is no place where Europe calls louder than in the Baltic States. Three European nations with distinct identities, languages and cultures. On 23 August 1989, approximately two million citizens joined hands, connecting their three capitals. This peaceful protest became known as one of the most impressive manifestations for independence on the continent.
Now 36 years later, and joining the EU in 2004, the three countries developed into flourishing cultural hubs, with a relevant music infrastructure – from grassroots venues to adventurous festivals and curious audiences within a broad spectrum of genres. Notably, the regional ecosystem probably features the healthiest gender balance in the world. In this panel we discuss regional developments in music, emerging talents, the various festivals and international touring, with three formidable female music professionals.
