Gunnar Sauermann is well known in the dark and hard music scene as a freelancer writer at Metal Hammer, Germany and other magazines. His still ongoing writing has appeared in printed publications since 2001. The German's main focus has been on the Norwegian black metal scene but he has also written many features on bands from Britain, Romania, Iceland, Sweden and elsewhere on a wide variety of musical styles. He joined Season of Mist as a publicist in 2008, where he worked eight years in France and two more in the Netherlands as head of promotion. In 2018, Sauermann was offered a position as senior press officer at the Wacken Open Air and moved to Hamburg. Two years later, he returned to PR as head of promotion at Prophecy Productions, and other labels under the umbrella of SPKR Media. He continues to work for the renowned German label in his fifth year now. In another life, the dedicated European has studied and worked in iron age and early medieval archaeology as well as comparative linguistics with a focus on Celtic and Germanic languages at the universities of Marburg and Dublin. When Sauermann is not at work in Hamburg, he can often be found reporting from studios and visiting festivals across Europe, and sometimes across the oceans.
