Studio RE:VIVE is an initiative by Beeld & Geluid and offers artists the space to work with Dutch musical heritage. The permanent studio is located in the heart of Beeld & Geluid’s archive in Hilversum and is equipped with both vintage and contemporary Dutch instruments and technology. The studio is conceived as an experimental space where creators can produce new music using exclusively Dutch-made instruments and equipment. Beeld & Geluid is the only archive in the world with its own music studio.
During Eurosonic Noorderslag, Studio RE:VIVE will temporarily relocate to the Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen, near De Oosterpoort, the venue for pop- and live music and the festival’s permanent home base. From 13 to 16 January, musicians Lyckle de Jong, Kim Davids Bots and Mitchel van Dinther (Jameszoo) will work on a joint experiment in the pop-up studio. They will be challenged to develop new work in inventive and creative ways, letting go of their usual methods of production. The pop-up studio is a collaboration with ESNS and is made possible in part by SENA.
The results of the experiment will be presented on Saturday 17 January, during the panel 'Bad Gear // Great Records'. The participating artists will be in conversation with Studio RE:VIVE engineers Gregory Markus and Robert Bergman. Guided by moderator Ricky Cherim (also known as the artist Meetsysteem), they will share their experiences and discuss how working within limitations can lead to new creative insights. The panel will also explore iconic albums that were created using equipment that was, technically speaking, far from “perfect”.
