Hoquets
ESNS: 2012
They call it . Inspired by the of famous groups like Konono N°1, who just as Hoquets make their own instruments. With pieces of wood, a found string and other household materials the trio from Brussels makes pleasant dancing music. Maxime Lê Hung is the only Belgian in the group with François Schulz (Fr) and McCloud Zicmuse (US). It are the two non-Belgians who look with a pleasant wonderment at their new homeland. And that's where most of the lyrics of Belgotronics come from. It's about cake (Couque de Dinant), the little village Baarle (Dans Van Baarle), the abbey of Orval (l'Abbaye d'Orval) and the making of stew (). All songs are danceable and it's hard to imagine that all this music is made by homemade instruments. You can hear one organ on the album, on Marc Melià Sobrevias of Lonely Drifter Karen is tricked into playing the organ. An other famous guest is Greg Saunier, drummer of Deerhoof. You might not know what you hear, you certainly will be surprised at what you see when Hoquets performs on stage with their peculiar instruments. But you will definitely leave with a smile when you attend a Hoquets show.
