(Still) Hard Out Here: Paving the Way to Gender Equity in Music

Based on MiDIA Research’s Be The Change study, this panel explores the ongoing challenges of gender equity in the music industry. While entry barriers remain high for women, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming persons, staying in the industry presents its own hurdles: this panel also explores the real reasons behind leaving the industry, from caregiving responsibilities and the impacts of menstruation and menopause, to challenges like freelancing and lack of compassionate leave. Our panellists will discuss key findings from the study, share insights and experiences, and highlight strategies and solutions for creating lasting change both on and off the stage.
