Etienne Valk is a PhD researcher at the Institute for Information Law (IViR), University of Amsterdam. Part of his research focuses on fair remuneration for artists, and more broadly on the tension between copyright and fundamental rights. He enjoys writing and speaking about topics such as music streaming and deepfake regulation. He previously worked at a niche law firm specializing in the film and music sector. As a lawyer and sociologist with a musical background, he seeks to identify social dissonance and economic dominance and resolve them to harmonious major.
