Beyond Streaming: Building Fairer Digital Futures for Artists

The music industry has hit peak streaming. Streaming growth is shrinking, and majors are in a race to define “Streaming 2.0” . We have all heard executives like Lucian Grainge, CEO of Universal Music Group, present the monetization of superfandom as the way forward, teaming up with questionable techplatforms in the process. But beyond this all too familiar “next big thing” storyline, real and unresolved questions remain. What are the actual structural challenges of the streaming economy? And, more importantly, what does it mean to move beyond them? Is there a future where tech can be redirected to serve artists and independents? In this session, we gather those who are working on these questions right now, while inviting all interested attendees to take part in an open, collaborative conversation on how we can build fairer, more transparent monetazition models.
