So who is to blame in all this: Liam or Noel? The business model for the dynamic pricing of ticket sales for the upcoming Oasis reunion shows in the UK has been met with an overwhelming demand from fans, ticket scalpers, ticket retailers and unauthorized resellers and not forgetting, politicians.
In fact, the numerous versions of today’s ticketing sales strategies, be they legal or illegal, equally confuses consumers and occasionally even law makers. Instead, some superstars just enjoy record results gained from extraordinarily high fees, sometimes boosted by hidden service fees, or to quote US President Joe Biden ultimately gained by “junk fees.” However, the following questions remain: Do we need newer and better regulations, transparency and more protection for the consumer? What kind of legal solutions should be applicable and therefore considered? During these times of the ‘superstar economy’ what about the idea of having a 'ticket tax' in order to support both grass roots artists as well as smaller music venues?
