James Bingham is the Head of Music and Opera for Arts Council Ireland, where he manages roughly €17m investment in the Irish music sector and manages key music policy initiatives. He is also the Music Director for Wicklow Choral Society and was described by the Sunday Times as an 'unashamedly messianic' advocate of music.

He spent seven years working as a producer at Irish National Opera, where he set up the multi-award winning outreach programme and opera studio. Prior to moving to Ireland James worked as a Choral Delivery Artist for Opera North in the UK, conducting around 1,000 people a week. He also worked for other major UK arts organisations, including Glyndebourne, the Halle, the National Children's Choir of Great Britain, Only Boys Aloud and Sheffield Cathedral. He also served as a board member of the Mermaid Arts Centre and sat on the steering committee for international network RESEO.
