Since 1999, Walter Hoeijmakers has served as founder and Artistic Director of Tilburg's prestigious Roadburn Festival. He is credited with expanding definitions of heaviness in music, as well as being on and steering the cutting edge of a broad, ever-evolving swath of underground styles. Roadburn has become internationally known for giving artists a platform to excel and showcase their work for a like-minded audience. Walter is severely visually impaired and depends on the support of his team, the 013 venue, and others, but remains intimately involved with organizing the festival. In its present incarnation, Roadburn features commissioned works of art painted, shot, filmed, performed and/or written exclusively for the festival.
