Attwenger
ESNS: 2014
Attwenger is not a band; it's an attitude - or maybe even an institution. It all began in 1991 by founding members Markus Binder and Hans-Peter Falkner. The former plays drums, the latter plays accordion. Both sing and use contemporary electronics in their music as well. They're known as one of the most innovative bands in Austria and it's no wonder: they fuse elements of folk with punk, rock, hip-hop and electro into a sound that's just as distinctive as it is unique. Their second album, Pflug (1992) and third album, Luft (1993) were each voted album of the year in Austria. Even the late John Peel couldn't quite understand Attwenger: "I have no idea what it´s all about, but I like the general noise a great deal."
