The music of Dermot Henry sounds like letting the thinking mind melt away and, your unconscious self take over. The songs on the young songwriter’s remarkable debut album ‘Bad Throw, Good Catch’ feel plucked from the ether and delivered in all their honest, abstract, sometimes contradictory glory. Henry’s sound was forged at University, when he discovered Elliott Smith and Big Thief’s Adrianne Lenker. The music of the latter feels like a cousin to his free-spirited folk songs, which win you over with their instrumental simplicity and unpolished atmosphere.
