DZA
ESNS:
2012
The appropriate soundtrack for the uncomfortable feeling you may experience in Moscow, that's how Pitchfork, in an article on the electronic scene in Moscow, described DZA's music. The Russian producer, dj and head of collective How2Make, is an unstoppable force in the scene. DZA, real name: Alexander Kholenko, is a forward thinking musician, and that is not obvious in a country where new music from the West still enters with some delay. Yet delay is not an option for DZA who remixes for Hudson Mohawke and makes beats for Shadow Huntaz. His EP Five-Finger Discount was described by Pitchfork as "a mélange of stuttering percussion and hazy melodies ripped from soundtracks and vintage prog-rock". Nowadays DZA is already working on all kind of other things. Hiphop, but of the kind we know from Madlib and Flying Lotus. For Russian musicians it is still not obvious to travel the world freely and work, yet DZA succeeds in conquering different countries with his impressive music expeditions.
