"I have become/An aerial view/Of a coastal town/That you once knew", that's how Be Good Or Be Gone by Fionn Regan starts. Actor and former singer of the Super Furry Animals, Rhys Ifans, tattooed the song title on his body. It's not the first time the lyrics of the Irish singer and songwriter leave a lasting impression. He was praised by Trinity College Literary Society because of the beautiful poetry in his lyrics. And we haven't even mentioned his music yet. Debut The End of History was nominated for the Mercury Prize. It got him a record deal with Lost Highway Records, home of Ryan Adams and Morrissey. But recording an album under pressure, in a short amount of time with a hot shot producer was not the best way for Regan. So he returned to Ireland to record The Shadow Of An Empire in an old biscuit factory. His recent album 100 Acres of Sycamore was written by Regan in the Spanish home of actress Anna Friel (Pushing Daisies). With a lot of strings Regan returns to melancholic folk with echo's of Nick Drake and Leonard Cohen. "Acoustic and orchestral, the mood throughout is sombre but hopeful, melancholic but magical."
