Born and raised in West London, Lava La Rue was exposed to the vibrant soundsystem culture, banging rave music and many fusions. This melting pot shines through, from the lo-fi, hip hop, jazz and neo soul of 2018’s Letra EP, to tougher, trap-inspired beats and R&B productions on the Stitches mixtape. On forthcoming EP Butterfly, recorded with producers Isom Innis, Dan Holloway and Courage, the 22-year-old breaks new ground by discussing love. Lava describes it as her attempt to redefine “what queer music can be; setting the agenda for queer music in the 20’s.”
