Maïa Vidal is a one-person orchestra without performing as a one-person orchestra. Debut album God Is My Bike is not only characterized by her distinctive voice, she also plays guitar, violin, accordion, percussion and several toy instruments. You may know Vidal as Your Kid Sister, a moniker she used when she recorded five covers of punk band Rancid, in her own distinctive way. She transformed them into haunting lullabies and plaintive waltzes. The combination of all different styles and facets that Vidal incorporates evokes a comparison to Emiliana Torrini, CocoRosie, Sóley and Yann Tiersen. Officially Vidal is French, however she was born in the US, of French and Japanese/German parents. She’s studied in Montreal and has spent the last couple of years in Barcelona, where she recorded God Is My Bike. Together with Gius Cobelli and also the infamous Marc Ribot who plays guitar on two of the songs. Maïa Vidal's music takes you on a wonderful, adventurous and surprising trip.
