Soul & Jazz
Marta Pereira da Costa (Lisbon 1982) started piano lessons at age four and added classical guitar at eight. Carlos Gonçalves, guitarist for Amália Rodrigues, introduced her to the Portuguese guitar at 18, and she developed a burgeoning passion for fado. Marta collaborated with many fado greats before her solo debut in Toronto. Her career soared across continents, from prestigious venues in Portugal to Brazil, Switzerland, and the USA, including SXSW and NPR’s Tiny Desk. On her second album, Sem Palavras", she blends fado with jazz and world music.
