Some music has got that quality. That everything around you seems to disappear when you hear a song. When nothing else matters other than that one track. Mirel Wagner has got that gift and her song No Death possesses that kind of magic to make the world stand still. Wagner is a 23 year old singer songwriter, born in Ethiopia and raised in Espoo, Finland. Inspired by  Mississippi John Hurt, Hope Sandoval and everything in between she began performing on open mic nights in Helsinki. Even though she was one of many, she was noticed. Of course, you might say, with that voice! "The antithesis of how a young woman in her early twenties should sound", someone wrote. "It has those world-weary and resigned tones that make Billie Holiday and Leonard Cohen so appealing." Her music and approach has been vaguely compared to Mazzy Star, Leonard Cohen, Bobby Gentry and Nick Cave as well. She doesn't need anything but a guitar and her voice. Her self titled album received raving praise from Finnish media, ranging from lifestyle to metal magazine. Recently the album was released in the rest of Europe, because everyone will surrender. Resistance is futile with this beautiful music.
