Murmansk
ESNS:
2012
Perhaps you can call it borderline music. Ready to explode at any moment. In an impressive, exciting and very nice eruption. That is what the Finnish four-piece from Helsinki is capable of. Expect distorted, rough-cut and ambient; withdrawn but aggressive. Murmansk combines dark-toned melodies with walls of sound, wrapping the songs in echo and feedback. Even though the band's sound partly leans towards shoegazing, it also has a more violent, minimalistic and straight-forward side to it. The common references include such bands and artists as Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Ride and PJ Harvey. Rather than thinking how Murmansk might sound you should see them perform live. The three men and the singing woman are as much in your face as a zit on your nose. A big one.
