Pitou
ESNS:
2022
The music of Amsterdam-born singer and songwriter Pitou is characterized by her mesmerizing, multicolored voice, and her unique compositions. Enchanting tales, moving from delicate and intimate to grand and orchestral. As a child she sang in a professional classical children’s choir. In search of independence she started writing her own music. She released her first EP in 2016, receiving praise from many, including British newspaper ‘The Independent’: “Amsterdam-born artist Pitou has one of the most arresting voices to emerge from this year, drawing comparisons to the likes of Laura Marling and Julia Holter, crafting intelligent folk- pop that balances the darkness and light of human emotion.” In 2018 she released her second EP ‘I Fall Asleep So Fast’. Guy Garvey (Elbow) discussed this record on BBC 6 Music Radio: “It's not just an extraordinary vocal performance, it's the details in the lyrics. You can follow it like a conversation, despite it being very detailed. That doesn't usually happen. This has come from somewhere very instinctual. It's really stunning.” Pitou has played shows all over Europe (UK, Turkey, France, Italy, Belgium and more), in venues such as Paradiso (NL) and L’Olympia (FR) and festivals such as The Great Escape (UK) and Best Kept Secret (NL). She is currently working on her debut full-length record. The unique musical universe that Pitou has carved out for herself has become even more substantial - a translation of our modern world into intriguing, richly layered musical tales.
