With their unique blend of metal, beautiful melodies, psychedelic moments and a touch of classic/hard rock, the music of Sólstafir is just as varied and interesting as the landscapes of their native Iceland. The band, which cites The Smashing Pumpkins, Neil Young Joy Division and AC/DC as their musical influences, has a thoroughly ironic bandname: Sólstafir is Islandic for rays of sunshine, but the lyrics of the band are quite gloomy. Nevertheless, their meandering, experimental soundscapes are surprisingly uplifting and dreamy.
