The Megaphonic Thrift is a Norwegian rock band hailing from Bergen, comprising members Richard Myklebust, Linn Frøkedal, Fredrik Vogsborg, and Njål Clementsen. Formed in 2008, the band has made a significant impact on both the Norwegian and international music scenes with their eclectic, guitar-driven indie rock sound.
Throughout their career, The Megaphonic Thrift has toured extensively across Europe and North America, gracing stages at renowned festivals such as SXSW, CMJ, The Great Escape, PopKomm, and Roskilde. They have also supported legendary acts including Dinosaur Jr., Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, Band of Horses, and A Place to Bury Strangers.
In 2015, the band released their third album, "Sun Stare Sound," produced by Jørgen Træen at Duper Studio. This album garnered critical acclaim and earned them a Spellemann Award (Norway's equivalent of the Grammy) in early 2016.
The Megaphonic Thrift ventured into new musical territories with their fourth album, "Få meg til verden i tide," released in 2016. This project marked a departure from their previous work, featuring Norwegian lyrics and a synth-heavy sound, a result of collaborations with Njål Paulsberg and Emil Nikolaisen.
In celebration of the 10th anniversary of "Sun Stare Sound," The Megaphonic Thrift is set to perform a special concert on Saturday, September 6, 2025, in Oslo. This rare performance offers fans an opportunity to experience the band's groundbreaking music in an intimate setting.
