Amsterdam-based Zitakula is a nine-piece afrobeat band from Amsterdam that was named after an exotic parakeet with green and yellow feathers and a highly individual bird call. They came together through a shared love for the grooves of Lagos and Addis Ababa, and the worlds of Fela Kuti and Mulatu Astatke. Zitakula's music is an explosive mix of African rhythms and melodies and Western jazz and funk, with a little bit of Brazil thrown in as well.
