I have conducted research on a wide range of topics at the intersection of economics and geography, such as residential attractiveness, livability, social security, and regional labor markets. For our yearly publication 'Atlas voor gemeenten' (Atlas for municipalities) I oversee the calculation of our residential attractiveness index - in which performing arts are weighed heavily. Cities where people can enjoy a vibrant (cultural) nightlife are known to be more attractive to talent and thus often develop more favorably.

Therefore, I believe that performing arts have not only an intrinsic value but also an economic value for cities and regions.
